Short biography

Aris Kampas is a Denmark-based painter working primarily in oil on canvas, blending surrealism and figurative realism in works that explore the complex relationship between humans and their surroundings.

Originally experimenting with acrylics six years ago, he soon turned to oil for its depth, richness, and slower drying time, allowing him to work in layers without rushing. Influenced by early 20th-century art movements yet always evolving, his paintings range from tightly rendered compositions to looser, more expressive passages.

His process begins with an idea that undergoes multiple compositional studies before becoming a carefully constructed grisaille. Subsequent layers are built gradually, often with a limited but purposeful palette, including his trusted white, Payne’s grey, ultramarine or royal blue, burnt sienna, umber, and yellow ochre.

Through his art, Aris invites viewers to inhabit his characters, to briefly become them, and to reflect on what it feels like to exist in their world. His recent exhibitions include Kunst for Alle 2024, CPH Art Space 2025 and with upcoming participation in  Kunst for Alle 2025.
